The Ministry of Health is monitoring the spreads of COVID-19 Omicron Variant and accelerating the COVID-19 prevention and control activities. On 14 January, Union Minister for Health Dr Thet Khaing Win met with the members of COVID-19 Control and Emergency Response Committee and the Union Minister expressed the following points during the meeting:
· In order to protect the transmission of COVID-19 viruses from other countries to a certain extent of time, the returnees from abroad have been quarantined at designated hotels and centres and they will be allowed to return their homes only after having swab tests with specified frequency.
· The returnees from abroad through border crossing posts placed in a restricted area under the regulations and guidelines of COVID-19. |They will be discharged after having swab tests.
Ministry of Health release timely statements on detection of SARS-CoV-2 Variant Omicron in persons returning from abroad by Relief Flights as follows:
· On 12 January 2022, two Myanmar nationals returned from India.
· On 13 January 2022, 40 Myanmar nationals and two foreigners returned from India, UAE, Malaysia and Thailand.
· On 14 January 2022, three foreigners returned from Philippines and Malaysia.
· On 15 January 2022, ten Omicron cases included five Myanmar nationals, three foreigners who returned from India. Other two are the close contacts of family members of infected persons. Up to 15-1-2022, the figure of Omicron cases has risen to 76 in total.
It is reported that the Ministry of Health is speeding up the activities of monitoring the spreads of COVID-19 Omicron Variant and the COVID-19 prevention and control activities. In this regard, the Ministry is reportedly making all-round efforts including preparing quarantine and treatment centres, necessary medications and oxygen by cooperating with relevant ministries, local authorities, generous donors and volunteers.
