Ceremony of handing over a total of 400,000 doses of Sputnik Light COVID-19 vaccines donated by the Russian Federation held at VIP longue of Yangon International Airport on 13 January. Union Minister for Health Dr Thet Khaing Win and Russian Ambassador Dr Nikolay Listopadov attended the ceremony.
During the ceremony, Russian Ambassador discussed as follows:
- Vaccines are donated to mark the Myanmar-Russia friendship and to support Myanmar’s efforts to eradicate COVID-19 disease.
- Russia and Myanmar will continue to cooperate in the fight against the pandemic in a friendly manner.
Union Minister expressed as follows:
- The third wave of COVID-19 in Myanmar was under control with the timely efforts of health workers under the leadership of the State Administration Council.
- COVID-19 vaccines play an important role to control the disease transmission.
- The donated vaccines will greatly contribute to the control of the disease in Myanmar.
Afterwards, the Union Minister and the ambassador signed the record on the handover of vaccines and the Union Minister returned the certificate of appreciation.
The Ministry of Health has received a total of 45.1 million of COVID-19 vaccines purchased from abroad (15.4 million doses of Covishield, 26.7 million doses of Sinopharm, three million doses of Sinovac) and a total of 15.4 million doses as donations (2.5 million doses of Covishield, 3.6 million doses of Sinopharm, 6.7 million doses of Sinovac, 2.2 million doses of Covaxin and 401,700 doses of Sputnik-V), totaling 60.5 million doses.
