Vice-Chairman of State Administration Council Deputy Prime Minister Vice-Senior General Soe Win Addresses Coordination Meeting of Leading Committee for Holding 23rd Myanmar Traditional Medicine Practitioners’ Conference and Myanmar Traditional Med

A Coordination Meeting of the Leading Committee for holding the 23rd Myanmar Traditional Medicine Practitioners’ Conference and Myanmar Traditional Medicine Seminar took place at the meeting hall of the Ministry of Health in Nay Pyi Taw on 4 November. The Patron of the Leading Committee Vice-Chairman of the State Administration Council (SAC) Deputy Prime Minister Vice-Senior General Soe Win addressed the meeting.

During the meeting, the Patron of the Leading Committee the SAC Vice-Chairman Deputy Prime Minister made remarks as follows:

  • The conference aims to enhance quality accreditation in traditional medicine education, foster further development of traditional medicine, produce traditional medicines in line with modern standards, increase the number of qualified traditional medicine practitioners, and foster respect and appreciation for Myanmar’s traditional medical, cultural heritage.
  • Efforts will also be made through this conference and seminar to preserve Myanmar’s traditional medicine practices, which have been passed down through generations, as a part of the nation’s cultural heritage.
  • The research papers to be submitted at the conference should cover traditional medicines of national ethnic groups over generations, current therapies and drugs, as well as the strengths and weaknesses of Myanmar’s medication in comparison to those of the international community for more widely accessible to the public.
  • Records for all measures of the conference and the seminar should be set systematically for new generation, like previous years.
  • Traditional medicine practitioners in Myanmar utilize natural resources from the country’s forests, mountains, waters, and land in their traditional medicines. Across all ages, they have not only cared for public health but also provided the best possible support with traditional medicines during epidemics and natural disasters.
  • As part of international cooperation, it is essential to collaborate with organizations such as the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, ASEAN, BIMSTEC, and the Mekong River Commission to enhance the quality of Myanmar’s traditional medicines and make effective traditional medicines that can achieve breakthroughs in international markets. It is also essential to discuss the development of Myanmar’s traditional medicine education as a national heritage at this conference, focusing on gathering the essence of these therapies and drugs, invaluable medical texts with a rich historical tradition, and effective medicines.
  • Work committee and sub-committee are urged to make concerted efforts in their respective sectors without gaps to successfully hold the 23rd Myanmar Traditional Medicine Practitioners’ Conference and Myanmar Traditional Medicine Seminar.

After that, the Chair of the Leading Committee Union Health Minister Dr. Thet Khaing Win and officials of the relevant sub-committees made sector-wise explanations for holding the 23rd Myanmar Traditional Medicine Practitioners’ Conference and Myanmar Traditional Medicine Seminar. After hearing the reports, the Leading Committee Patron the SAC Vice-Chairman Deputy Prime Minister Vice-Senior General Soe Win coordinated all measures discussed at the meeting.

Also present at the meeting were Union Health Minister Dr. Thet Khaing Win, Chairman of the Leading Committee, committee members, sub-committee members, and relevant officials.
