The opening ceremony of the 42nd ASEANAPOL Conference hosted by Myanmar Police Force organized in Nay Pyi Taw on 22 October. Member of State Administration Council (SAC) Union Minister for Home Affairs Lt-Gen. Yar Pyae, as an honorary guest, attended and opened the conference.
Before the ceremony, the INTERPOL Chairman and delegation leaders paid a courtesy call to the honorary guest SAC Member Union Minister Lt-Gen. Yar Pyae. During the opening ceremony, the Chief of Myanmar Police Force made a greeting speech, a video clip depicting activities of ASEANPOL conducted from 1981 to date was played, the special guest made remark, and the honorary guest made opening speech.
On the first day of the conference, the First Plenary Meeting, Forum of Leaders of Delegation, and Meeting of Leaders of Delegations and Dialogue Partners were held simultaneously as follows:
- During the Commission A and B meetings, discussions were made on matters relating to the transnational crimes being implemented by respective countries such as illicit drug trafficking, terrorism, arms smuggling, human trafficking, maritime fraud, commercial crimes, bank offences and credit card fraud, cybercrime, fraudulent travel documents and transnational fraud.
- The Commission C meeting discussed the database system (e-ADS) to be utilized among the ASEAN member countries, mutual support for criminal cases, training for ASEAN police forces and establishment of the ASEANPOL forensic science network.
The event was also attended by special guest INTERPOL Chair Mr. Ahmed Naser AI-Raisi, Chiefs of Police Forces and Senior Police Officers of ASEAN and their wives, delegation members, delegates of dialogue partners such as Russia, Australia, China, INTERPOL and ASEAN Secretariat, Observers such as Timor-Leste, ICRC and the UAE, diplomats of ASEAN countries and invited guests. The wives of the guests visited the Uppatasanti Pagoda and National Museum in Nay Pyi Taw, reports say.
