Union Ministers Receive Sri Lankan Ambassador to Myanmar

Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister for Foreign Affairs U Than Swe Union Minister for Religious Affairs and Culture U Tin Oo Lwin, Union Minister for Science and Technology Dr Myo Thein Kyaw and Union Minister for Hotels and Tourism Dr Thet Thet Khine received H.E. Mrs. Prabashini Ponnamperuma, Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Myanmar, at the related ministries’s reception hall in Nay Pyi Taw on 26 and 27 September.

  • During the call with Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister for Foreign Affairs, they cordially exchanged views on the promotion of friendly bilateral ties and enhancement of cooperation between the two countries in economic, consular, information technology, agricultural and religious sectors.
  • During the call with Union Minister for Religious Affairs and Culture, they cordially exchanged views on the enhancement of religious and cultural cooperation, the facilitation, the of entry visas for pilgrims to Sri Lanka’s Buddha tooth relic chamber and other places of religious significance, pilgrimage to pagodas and stupas between Myanmar and Sri Lanka, and the improvement of relations between Buddhist universities.
  • During the call with Union Minister for Science and Technology, they discussed technological development, human resource advancement, and bilateral cooperation for mutual benefit in a friendly and constructive atmosphere between two countries.
  • During the call with Union Minister for Hotels and Tourism, they frankly discussed matters related to reciprocal visit to destinations of the two countries, implementation of religious and cultural tourism between Myanmar and Sri Lanka, direct flights to destinations of the two countries, implementation of Buddhist circuit pilgrimage tours between Myanmar, India, Sri Lanka, and Nepal, continued implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed for tourism cooperation and the holding of online meetings to increase bilateral government-private tourism cooperation.

Deputy Ministers, permanent secretaries, director-general and officials were also present on the occasions, it is reported.
