A Ceremony marking the 60th Anniversary of Myanmar Police Force (MPF) Day took place at Myanmar International Convention Centre-2 (MICC-II) in Nay Pyi Taw on 1 October, with the attendance of Chairman of the State Administration Council (SAC) Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, SAC Joint-Secretary and SAC Members, union ministers and union-level dignitaries, the chairman of Nay Pyi Taw Council, senior military officers from the Office of the Commander-in-Chief, the commander of Nay Pyi Taw Command, deputy ministers, diplomats, distinguished guests from international organizations, departmental heads, woman affairs and related organizations, the chief of the MPF and members, retired police officers and officers.
During the ceremony, the SAC Chairman Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing gave a speech as follows:
- The MPF members are required to uphold “Our Three Main National Causes” and to continue to realize the five-point roadmap and nine objectives of the SAC and stability and the rule of law in the entire union for the safety of socio-economic lives of the people. The MPF is urged to cooperate with the Tatmadaw and the people in counter-terrorism.
- The MPF has to establish border liaison offices (BLOs) with five neighbouring countries in combatting transnational crimes and hold BLO meetings for the timely exchange of information.
- Myanmar has officially extradited 54,433 illegal foreigners in Myanmar from 28 countries from October 2023 to August 2024 in accordance with rules and regulations.
- Myanmar is closely cooperating with international organizations to prevent and eliminate the dangers posed by narcotic drugs. Myanmar has continued to conduct special drug elimination Operation 39/24 (2024) from 2023 to 2024.
- A total of 5,286 suspects were arrested in 3,832 cases with seizures of drugs and accessories such narcotic drugs and precursor chemicals worth over K750 billion from 1 January to 31 August 2024.
- In order to take actions against human trafficking effectively, Myanmar enacted a new law on 16 June 2022. Myanmar took action against 30 men and 66 women, totalling 96 persons in 27 cases of trafficking in persons from October 2023 to August 2024 and rescued five men and 44 women, totalling 49 trafficked victims.
- It is cooperating with INTERPOL and ASEANAPOL in curbing regional human trafficking crimes and launching antihuman trafficking campaigns. Continued efforts are required for further success.
- The nation recognized the efforts of the members and conferred titles and medals of gallantry and performance on MPF members.
- Zeal, perseverance, diligence, spirit and endeavours of police members who lost and sacrificed limbs on duty are honoured and recognized.
- In this regard, Ye Thura medal was conferred on 10 police members, Ye Bala medals on 132, Ye Kyawthu medals on two, Excellent Performance in Social Field (Second Class) on one, good police personnel medal on 389, State Police Service medal on 786, joint combat medal on 2,765, good public servant medal on 67, public servant medal on 57, law and order restoration medal on 5,642, totaling 9,851 during the period from 1 October 2023 to 1 October 2024.
- In ensuring security and stability and rule of law in the entire country, police members need to join hands with people in taking crime prevention, and exposing the suspects immediately and take action against them under the law.
- Hence, all police members have to serve the interests of the people with loyalty, integrity and courage, and try hard to become reliable law enforcement.
Then, the SAC Chairman Prime Minister presented gallantry medals to four police members, SAC Joint Secretary General Ye Win Oo, gallantry medals to three police members and SAC Member Union Minister for Home Affairs Lt-Gen Yar Pyae, gallantry medals to two police members and performance medal to one member, respectively.
After that, the Senior General and party visited commemorative exhibitions of documentary photos, embossed figures, equipment, technological tools, weapons, uniforms, communication sets, and drug detection equipment and monitoring checkers.
Following this, the dinner in honour of the 60th Anniversary of MPF Day took place at the same venue in the evening. It was attended by the SAC Chairman Prime Minister and his wife Daw Kyu Kyu Hla, SAC Joint-Secretary General Ye Win Oo and wife, Council members and wives, union ministers, union-level dignitaries and wives, the chairman of Nay Pyi Taw Council, senior military officers from the Office of the Commander-in-Chief and wives, deputy ministers, departmental heads, woman affairs and related organizations, the chief of the MPF and members, artists and officials.
Before and during the dinner, members from the Myanmar Police Force’s band, artists from the Fire Services Department, and performers from the Fine Arts Department under the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Culture and artists from the Myawady music band under the Directorate of the Public Relations and Psychological Warfare performed musical entertainment. Later, the Senior General and his wife presented honorary flower bouquets and cash awards to the Myanmar Police Force’s band.
