The Article (3) of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights states that “Everyone has the right to life, liberty and security of person”. The right to life is an essential fundamental right that all human beings are entitled to from birth, and it cannot be taken away under any circumstances.
In today’s world, numerous factors threaten the rights to life, liberty, and personal security of individuals, and Myanmar also faces not only natural disasters but also armed conflicts and terrorist attacks caused by various manipulations, undermining the rule of law and peace. As a result, residents have suffered losses of lives, homes, and property, and many were forced to flee. Some people reportedly remained behind. In areas affected by terrorist attacks, both the people who remain and those who have fled their homes are experiencing losses of their fundamental rights, including the rights to life, food, health, education, and personal security.
It is essential not to attack hospitals and clinics that provide healthcare, schools that offer education, religious buildings, and residential homes. Terrorist attacks and armed conflicts are the opposite of the rule of law and peace. In order to promote democracy and human rights, it is necessary to adhere to the provisions set forth in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights issued by the United Nations, international humanitarian laws, international human rights treaties, and domestic laws. Therefore, Myanmar National Human Rights Commission issued a statement on 6 August that it is also urged that the right to life and security of the innocent public, including vulnerable groups, be prioritized and collectively protected.
