Chairman of State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing Delivers a Speech at 6/2024 Meeting of Union Government

Chairman of the State Administration Council (SAC) Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing delivered a speech at Union Government Meeting 6/2024 which was held at the meeting hall of the SAC Chairman Office in Nay Pyi Taw on 29 July.

During the meeting, the SAC Chairman Prime Minister made a speech as follows:

  • A government has to strive for the development of national economy and public businesses. The country achieved progress in internal and external trade through maritime and land border trade routes during the past three months, April, May and June, resulting in the plus signs in the trade.
  • As illegal trade remains in border areas, serious attention should be paid to trade sector properly. Officials have to remove any hurdles along the border trade as unacceptable costs along the route to border trade can raise commodity prices.
  • Only when the products have already in the country, can trade activities be conducted. If rice production meets the target, the country can boost exports; apart from ensuring local food sufficiency.
  • Efforts to develop agriculture and livestock breeding tasks can contribute to more manufacturing and running industries as well as enhancement of the service sector so as to increase the GDP of the State. Based on the said businesses, the country will be able to certainly improve the social life of 50 per cent of the country’s population.
  • If foodstuffs and consumer goods can be manufactured at home, import volume can be reduced. So, it is necessary to encourage the development of MSME businesses.
  • As cotton is mainly planted in Mandalay, Magway and Sagaing regions, cotton from these regions must be used in cotton-based industries so as to produce quality threads and textile which can be great beneficial in cotton cultivation. As such, these regions need to strive for running the cotton-based industries.
  • Fisheries products can earn an appropriate amount of income for the State. It needs to strive for successful development of fishing industry.
  • Regarding education sector, the government has been striving for appointment of education staff to meet the necessary strength in the education sector whereas necessary aids are being fulfilled for academic infrastructures.
  • 70 per cent of basic education schools have reopened this academic year, with 92 per cent attendance of students.
  • Teachers who have completed necessary training courses are assigned duties. As the government creates deserved opportunities for education staff, teachers have to dutifully serve their assigned tasks in teaching children to have education and knowledge.
  • Educated persons are essential for a country. If those persons will be served duties in the workplace in conformity with their knowledge, it will be much beneficial to the State.
  • The government arranged to increase allowance for staff in addition to salaries as part of recognizing their service. The allowance will be allocated for retired staff.
  • As regards health sector, the government emphasizes full appointment of health staff and provision of medications. This year, the special fund will be spent on providing hospital equipment and upgrading hospitals.
  • In accord with the policies “health helps learning”, “health helps working”, “nothing is more important than human life” and “all hospitals must have medical doctors”, requirements are being fulfilled in the health sector.
  • In the rule of law sector, emphasis must be placed on raising public awareness to decline crime.
  • Most of the criminal cases are based on lesser knowledge and solving monetary problems in incorrect ways. As such, it is necessary to effectively supervise raising legal knowledge for the people in the crime-prone areas.
  • Arrangements are made to hold the Myanmar Traditional Performing Arts Competitions in coming October and the National Sports Festival in December.
  • The Myanmar Traditional Performing Arts Competitions aim to preserve Myanmar’s culture and highlight national characteristics, while the National Sports Festival aims to provide high-quality, competitive sports events.
  • There are needs of staff housings for security forces and healthcare sector. Therefore, it is essential to construct staff housings within their operational areas.
  • Union Ministers and Chief Ministers of Regions and States should report any national matters in a timely manner and act according to policies. 

Present were union ministers and officials. The Nay Pyi Taw Council chair and region/state chief ministers participated in the meeting through videoconferencing.
