Myanmar delegation led by Union Minister for Health Dr. Thet Khaing Win attended the 7th China-ASEAN Summit for Traditional Medicine and Pharmaceutical Development Cooperation which was held in Fanchenggang, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, the People’s Republic of China, on 14 and 15 September.
During the meeting, Union Minister Dr. Thet Khaing Win delivered a speech as follows:
- The summit will focus on quality assurance, assessment, capacity building and strategic related matters and exchange the policy and regulations for traditional medicines.
- The summit will support the development of safety and better traditional medicine in the regional countries.
Then, the heads of China and ASEAN traditional medicine sources discussed the quality and safety of traditional medicines, policies and work processes of respective countries, and the Director-General of the Traditional Medicine Department of the Ministry of Health of Myanmar presented the progress in the traditional medicine sector of Myanmar, its policies, research and success of COVID-19 treatment with “Withama” traditional medicine by formulating scientifically as well as the possible areas of cooperation with Chia and ASEAN member States in the traditional medicine sector.
At noon on 14 September, the Myanmar delegation attended the opening ceremony of the China-ASEAN Drug Control Officers Training Course, Seminar on Traditional Medicines and Pharmaceutical Development Policy, and China-ASEAN Pharmaceutical Production and Exporting Seminar. Myanmar delegation also made a study tour to the commemorative museum for establishing of Traditional Chinese Medicine Industry Development Economic Zone in Fangchenggang, it is reported.
