Rehabilitation Activities Underway for the Loss and Damage caused by Cyclone Mocha

The departmental officials from relevant Ministries as well as relief and rescue task forces organized and sent in advance by the Tatmadaw have been actively carrying out the rescue and rehabilitation activities in the areas where losses and damages occurred in the aftermath of cyclonic storm (MOCHA). In this regard:

  • From 12 to 18 July, senior military officers tasked to oversee rehabilitation activities in storm-hit areas like Kyaukpyu, Buthidaung, Mrauk-U, Ponnagyun, Myebon, Thandwe, Rathedaung, Maungdaw, Minbya and Kyauktaw of Rakhine State and Paletwa of Chin State oversaw the clean-up activities collectively carried out by local military personnel, preparations of local farmers to grow monsoon paddy, repair works of electricity networks, selling construction materials and food stuff produced by the MEC and Myanmar Economic Holdings Limited as well as meats, fish and vegetables by local military units to the people of storm victims.
  • Senior military officials at the storm-hit townships also provided rice, cooking oil, food stuffs, cash assistance, materials used for rehabilitations and school materials to monasteries, teachers and students, locals and elders.
  • On 13 July, Union Minister Union Minister for Cooperatives and Development of Rural Areas U Hla Moe and party inspected and oversaw the repair works of bailey bridge (85 feet in length and 12 feet in width) that connects between Aung Mingalar ward and Ywarthitkay village of Sittwe township.
  • On 14 July, Commander of Western Command Major General Htin Lat Oo and officials inspected the activities of Tatmadaw mobile medical teams providing healthcare services to the locals of storm victims in Donepyin Taung village and other villages in the vicinity as well as Bengali people in refugee camps, and also provided food stuffs to them.
  • On 17 July, Rakhine state Chief Minister U Htain Lin and party conducted a ground survey to expand and intensify the activities of rehabilitation, agricultural and livestock in Minpyar and Mrauk-U townships. During the tour, they also inspected the activities to construct a jetty and avoid bank erosion, repair works of damaged departmental buildings, and the cultivation of moon paddy seeds plantations.

Union Ministers, relevant Region/State Chief Ministers, commanders of regional military commands and responsible departmental officials encouraged the said rehabilitation activities collectively conducted by military personnel, members of Myanmar Police Force and Myanmar Fire Brigade, staff from respective ministries and civil societies, and also attended to their needs, it is reported.
