The State Administration Council (SAC) of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar has pardoned the male and female prisoners in various prions/jails/camps across the country 4 January, to bring peace to the people, on the humanitarian grounds and to understand the government’s kindness and generosity, in commemoration of 76th Anniversary of Independence Day. In this regard:
- A total of 9,652 male and female prisoners who have served their prison sentences to a certain extent had been granted pardon.
- On bilateral relations of countries, 114 foreign prisoners of male and female who were serving their prison sentences to a certain extent had been granted, and are expelled from Myanmar.
A total of 9,766 male and female including foreign prisoners had been granted pardon under the Code of Criminal Procedure Article 401 (1), on condition that “if more offence is committed next time, they will have to serve the new punishment together with the remaining punishment to which they were sentenced”, it is reported.
