Union Health Minister Addresses International Conference on Public Health and Diplomacy

Union Minister for Health Dr. Thet Khaing Win attended the International Conference on Public Health and Diplomacy which was held in Dhaka, Bangladesh on 11 July.

During the conference, the Union Minister delivered a speech as follows:

  • Public health diplomacy is a method chosen with a purpose of mutual representation among those who are involved in public health and politics. It enables to promote cooperation, solve conflict issues, improve health systems and secure opportunities of vulnerable community.
  • Myanmar strongly values the friendly relations based on peaceful co-existence, mutual respect and close cooperation in health activities with neighboring countries in order to achieve sustainable development and health-related improvements.
  • He expressed gratitude to the government of Bangladesh for giving humanitarian aid relief supplies to Rakhine State devastated by Cyclone Mocha.
  • He expressed his hope that the two countries would be able to cooperate more by coordinating and discussing the current public health challenges through the conference that was held today.

The Prime Minister of Bangladesh greeted ministers of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Health from the participating countries. The Union Minister said that Myanmar has made better preparations especially in education, health, social affairs, food and accommodation to accept refugees who are in Bangladesh and Myanmar is ready to accept them. He also requested the government of Bangladesh to make arrangements for repatriation as soon as possible.

The Union Minister met Bangladeshi Minister of Health H.E. Mr. Zahid Maleque and they discussed bilateral cooperation in health sectors and health human resource development, preventing infectious diseases and the development of pharmaceuticals.

The conference was held from 11 to 12 July in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, World Health Organization, Ministries of Foreign Affairs from Southeast Asian Nations, Union Ministers and Deputy Ministers of Health, Secretaries, United Nations organizations, experts from the World Health Organization and international health organizations, Myanmar Ambassador to Bangladesh U Aung Kyaw Moe and ambassadors and delegates from eight countries attended the discussion, it is reported.
