Pilgrims across the Country Throng Maravijaya Buddha Image

As the Maravijaya Buddha Image, the world’s highest sitting marble Buddha Image, is open to the public since 8 August, pilgrims including monks and nuns across the country throng the Image daily in addition to public holidays. 

  • The pilgrims paid homage to the Maravijaya Buddha image, practiced abstract meditation and chanted religious verses together by religious groups.
  • They also paid homage to 720 small pagodas on the stone plaque chambers Mucalinda lake and Nagayon pagoda.
  • The scenes of taking group photos with happiness by pilgrims were seen at the water fountain square and small as well as large water fountains systematically built in the Buddha Park and precinct of the Buddha Image.
  • Pilgrims peacefully take a rest at the Thudhama rest houses that are constructed with teak logs and decorated ancient Myanmar traditional handcrafts.
  • Pilgrims make cash donation with generosity for Maravijaya Buddha Image and other generous donors gave vegetarian fruit Biryani for all comers.
  • Concerned authorities made necessary checks on pilgrims for security purpose to ensure safety. Then, they make the arrangement for transport with small vehicle for monks, persons with disabilities and aged-persons.

The Maravijaya Buddha Image is open to the public free of charge from 8 and 16 August between 6 am and 8 pm. The date for the public free of charge will be extended for three days from 17 to 19 August as many pilgrims visit to pay homage to the Marvijaya Image, it is reported.  

Following 20 August and later, the entry fee to the Buddha Image for adult Myanmar citizen will be collected at the rate of 1,000 kyats and for foreign at the rate of 10 USD in order to do necessary maintainance works for Maravijaya Buddha Image and Buddha Park.
