Terrorists Create and Spread Disinformation and Fake News in order to Cause Unrest and Misunderstand the Tatmadaw

Unlawful and destructive media outlets have been creating and spreading fabricated news by a multi-sectoral approach to cause instability and unrest in the country, sow discord between the Tatmadaw and the people, and create misunderstanding over the Tatmadaw in the international arena.  

• The news stating that civilians were killed due to heavy weapons fired by the Tatmadaw is not true. The Tatmadaw is strictly abiding by the Rules of Engagement in conducting Counter-Terrorism Operations to protect lives and prosperity of the people. The Tatmadaw never shell residential areas but terrorists intentionally shell towns and villages where the people live.
• The news stating that security force members recklessly arrested civilians in Myeik and Dawei Townships is just fabricated information.
• The news stating that the ransom of a youth living in Taungtha Township of Mandalay Region who was forced to join the military is not true. Actually, a suspicious man was walking in front of the General Administration Office of Taungtha Township, and the security forces conducted necessary security checks. Later, the young man’s mother arrived and took him back.
• Intentionally published false news on social media claims that the Tatmadaw is removing power cables from the electric power lines in Pazunmyaung Village, located in Nyaunglebin Township, and selling them, resulting in a lack of electricity in the village. Actually, terrorists fired indiscriminately near the village three months ago, damaging and cutting off some parts of the power transmission lines.

Unlawful destructive media which abet to acts of terrorism are spreading such rumors in order to make civil servants who fulfill the state’s duty and peaceable local ethnic people. The Government is continuing to take necessary measures for the peace and stability of the state as well as the prevalence of law and order, it is reported.
