Families of the Office of the Commander-in-Chief (Army, Navy and Air) held first monsoon tree-growing ceremonies at the place near Yezin dam in Zeyathiri Township of Nay Pyi Taw on 8 June 2023, aimed at conserving environment, contributing to easing impacts of climate change, giving shade from the sun and support to the State economy on one hand.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chairman of the State Administration Council Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing stressed the following points;
- Like watchword “People who love forest and trees, grow trees yearly for winning treasury”, lovely conserving forests and trees and growing more trees create many advantages to the State.
- Such ceremonies aim to sustain forest resources of the State and conserve environment and valuable ecosystems as a national duty.
- Of more than 21 million saplings that have been planted by the whole Tatmadaw from 2011 to 2022, more than 15 million of which (over 70%) are thriving.
- Climate is changed due to deforestation and it cause disasters which claim people and cause damages.
- Establishment of a forest needs to take more than 10 years. Perennial trees cannot immediately benefit the people but give shade and safety to new generation.
- Spending a large sum of money, time and labour on growing trees aims to green the State as a natural duty, so all people have to understand it and strive for the successful growing of trees.
The Senior General and wife planted a teak tree. Other senior military officers, officers, the ranks and families also planted saplings at the designated places.
At the first tree-growing ceremony held on 8 June, families of Office of Commander-in-Chief (Army, Navy and Air) planted 1,764 teak plants, 882 Manjansha plants and 882 gum kino plants, totaling 3,528. As the whole Tatmadaw, it has grown 210,398 trees.
The ceremony was also attended by the Chairman of the State Administration Council Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services and wife, wife of the Senior General, SAC Vice-Chairman Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Commander-in-Chief (Army) Vice-Senior General Soe Win and wife, Chief of the General Staff (Army, Navy and Air) General Maung Maung Aye and wife, the Commander-in-Chief (Navy) and wife, the Commander-in-Chief (Air) and wife, senior military officers from the Office of the Commander-in-Chief and their wives, Union-level officials and wives, senior officer trainees from the National Defence College, officers , other ranks and families from offices and departments of the Office of the Commander-in-Chief (Army)., it is reported.
