Myanmar National Education Conference 2023 commenced on 18 May and is currently being held until 20 May at Myanmar International Convention Centre II (MICC-II) in Nay Pyi Taw. Union Minister for Education Dr. Nyunt Pe attended the conference and delivered keynote address as follows:
- the Myanmar National Education Conference 2023 is held as per the directive of the SAC Chairman Prime Minister to better the education sector of Myanmar in the future by cooperating with 11 education-related ministries.
- Promoting education is shaping the future of the community and the entire world in addition to the people who seek learning opportunities.
- The Prime Minister laid down seven objectives of the conference. They are:
- to find ways to remedy the decreasing number of education level transition,
- to conduct the KG+9 education as the national task in all regions and states,
- to teach agricultural, livestock and technical subjects in KG+10, 11, 12 to ensure the basic vocational skills,
- to produce human resources to learn agricultural, livestock breeding and technical subjects that can be applied in workplaces,
- to teach higher education in a supportive atmosphere for the community in addition to the subjects related skills,
- to produce experts in arts, science and technology sectors and
- to uplift the nationalism and patriotism of young people.
- From the 2023-24 academic year, 50 districts will launch 51 technical, agriculture and livestock high schools where the students who have passed the KG+9 education can attend. Moreover, those who attend these schools for three years will be able to enter the workplace, and those who are talented will also have the opportunity to continue to acquire higher education.
Then, Penal Discussion 1 was organized under the topic “Finding ways to raise the number of students and complete KG+9 education at least”, while Penal Discussion 2 discussed “Finding ways to produce intellectuals, intelligentsia and experts to support the development of a social community in addition to subject-specific skills in the higher education sector”, and Penal Discussion 3 on “Exploring ways to ensure basic vocational skills with agriculture, livestock breeding and technology after KG+9 education”. The attendees actively raised questions that they want to know and gave feedbacks.
On 19 May, seven parallel discussions took place under seven titles, and Parallel discussion 1 was organized under the topic “Finding ways to raise the number of students” while Parallel discussion 2 discussed “Completing KG+9 as a national issue,” Parallel discussion 3 on “Exploring ways to ensure basic vocational skills with agriculture, livestock breeding and technology for youths who have completed KG+9”, Parallel discussion 4 on “Applying for technical vocational courses and turning out human resources”, Parallel discussion 5 on “Development of higher education sector and production of professionals”, Parallel discussion 6 on " Research and Innovation" and Parallel discussion 6 on “Enhancement of the capacity of teachers in technical, vocational and training sectors.”
On 20 May, discussion group chairpersons and panellists presented the conference processes and outcomes related to the seven topics discussed on the second day. These suggestions and negotiations were collectively reviewed and discussed by the participants.
Union Minister Dr. Nyunt Pe expressed his gratitude and pride for the active participation of all the teachers during the three-day event, emphasizing the successful collaboration among the Ministry of Education and 11 related ministries. In his closing speech, the Union minister highlighted that the Myanmar Education Conference 2023 was deemed a successful event and announced that the conference was successfully concluded, it is reported.
