Press Release on Propaganda about Oppression of Factory Workers Holding 5/, 8/, 9/ CSCs

      Ministry of Labour issued a press release describing that the news posted on the CTUM Myanmar page on 25 August 2022 was merely an incitement and an act of propaganda to hamper workplace stability as well as manufacturing sector, and it was not a real happening.

1. The Ministry of Labour has learnt the CTUM Myanmar page posted on 25-8-2022 stating “three members – two males and one female – of the Youths Union Centre Labour Alliance and CTUM wearing T-shirts bearing 5/, 8/ and 9/ staged a strike in front of the Zhejiang Tongi Clothing Myanmar Co Ltd (garment factory) at No 25 on Nawaday Mingyi road in the Shwelinpan Industrial Zone in Hlinethaya (West) Township to show that they are standing with the oppressed workers who hold citizenship scrutiny cards that begin with the numbers 5/, 8/, and 9/.

2. Officials conducted a field study regarding the news that the workers who hold CSC cards 5/ Sagaing Region, 8/ Magway Region and 9/ Mandalay Region are being oppressed at the factory, and the findings are as follows: —

(a) The owner of the factory is Mr Gong Song Lin (Korean) and it employs 1,496 workers– 108 males and 1,388 females.

(b) The factory has been operating for over seven years. It has never dismissed workers without any reason and managed the workers who did not follow the rules in accordance with the law. There is no unusual labour cases at the factory, and three protesters are not the employees from the factory.

(c) The factory employees are working peacefully and the factory does not dismiss, discriminate and oppress the 5/, 8/ and 9/ CSC-holders.

3. Therefore, the news posted on the CTUM Myanmar page on 25-8-2022 was merely an incitement and an act of propaganda to hamper workplace stability and manufacturing sector as they are incorrect and false facts.
